BLACK BELT CEREMONY

Written by Captain Mary on Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Well two years of hard work has ended up with me receiving my First Degree Black Belt. The ceremony was wonderful, my nerves were shot. The hardest part of the ceremony was when I had to get up and make my speech. I kept breaking down in tears, and then trying to fumble through the rest of my speech without my glasses on, it was hysterical. Then I had to get back up to receive my certificates for State Champion, in sparring and forms.

The ceremony consisted of first lighting a candle, then presenting the Master with a gold coin in our appreciation, next was the tying of our new Black Belt for the first time. As I begun this part of the ceremony my sister June walked in the door and along with my daughter, Monica, the kids, Shy, Sam, and Max and best friend Shelah held the end of the belt to complete this part of the ceremony. I was so shocked to see my sister and so happy when I saw her smiling face, I fell once again into tears.

I was so honored to have so many people be part of this great accomplishment. My entire IMA family, my sissy, June, my sister-in-law, Margo, and Monica and the kids, and as always the wonderful Davis family. I can't thank my instructors enough for their efforts, they worked as hard as I did to get me to this point. As the Master says, we are now truly a student of TaeKwonDo, and only now is when the adventure begins.

We are all so proud of you MOM, and personally a little jealous. It sucks that I was so close, but my journey is not over. I soon too will be joining you in the ranks of black belt. You are one of the most impressive women that I have met. It will be hard to fill your shoes, ever!!!

    We love you!!!
