QUESTION OF THE MONTH
Written by Captain Mary on Wednesday, October 01, 2008MY SUMMER VACATION
Written by Captain Mary on Monday, September 01, 2008I didn't really take a vacation, as the word applies, because the past year I spent traveling all over the place for TaeKwonDo competitions. Of course I traveled over to Bimini several times, which is just like a mini vacation. But the best part of the summer is when everybody in the family went on vacation and I stayed home. I visited friends, went out, had great fun doing anything I wanted. Played with my zoo residents and did nothing when I wanted and the best part is I got to run around naked when I wanted.
WHAT DID YOU DO ON YOUR SUMMER VACATION?
Written by Captain Mary on Monday, September 01, 2008What and where was your summer vacation? I would love to hear your story of adventure or turmoil. Tell your story here or read the responses in the comments.
MY NICK NAME
Written by Captain Mary on Saturday, August 02, 2008I have so many I don't exactly know where to start. I will tell you about my Nick Name of "Cappy". I am a boat captain, so naturally someone would call me this eventually. The first person that called me "Cappy" was one of my sons college buddy's a guy named Sneaky Pete, I don't think I want to know how he got his name. Anyway, Pete, Doc and son Jason all went on a trip to Bimini with me and to get on my good side Pete thought he would call me "Cappy", instead all he did was irritate me, "Cappy can I help you", " Cappy can I do this and Cappy can I do that", by the end of the day I wanted to ring Pete's neck, and so did his buddies or perhaps just throw him overboard. The name is now stuck to me and more than a few people call me "Cappy". One thing about Nick Names you can't get rid of them no matter how hard you try.

MY BLACK HOLE
Written by Captain Mary on Wednesday, July 02, 2008My answer to the question of the month. It was hard to figure out what it was at first but a good question indeed. Many years ago I was home alone in the country, when 3 young men broke through my front door, quickly grabbed me and drugged me, they put me in the bedroom and began rummaging around my house. I was out of it for awhile, but still able to think. My husband had a gun in the house but it was in pieces, the barrel, the butt and the bullet were in different areas of the room. We did that because we had children in the house. I quietly put the gun together, not knowing if I was doing it correctly. The sounds of the 3 men were getting closer, perhaps they were coming for me now. They were now at the doorway with a gun pointed at me, I stood up quickly held my gun at them and told them that I would kill at least two of them before they could kill me, because I had a bigger gun and a clip with 23 bullets in it. There was real shock on their faces, because they knew I meant it, they turned around and ran.
I realized that I could have killed them, thats my Black Hole, it is a part of me that I never want to surface again. Its something inside of me that could take the life of another if provoked. I hope that no one ever has to experience that feeling. I was lucky indeed that no one lost their life that day, including me. By the way the gun was put together correctly, I went outside after they had gone and fired it, it worked perfectly. These men almost lost their lives for a $20 bill and a pearl necklace. Life has to be worth more than that. Do you know what you would do if that happened to you?
JUNE'S QUESTION OF THE MONTH WINNER

Congratulations and thanks for your participation. Read the winning reply and tell me what you think.
Once when I was about six, I found a sweater, wrapped in plastic as if it had never been opened, in a dumpster behind our house in Okinawa, Japan. My sister's birthday was coming up, so I decided to give it to her as a present. Of course, when I gave it to her, the question came from my mother, "where did you get this sweater?" You see, I wasn't old enough to drive and we lived on an Air Force Base miles away from the Base Exchange, so there wasn't a way for me to buy anything, even if I did have money, which I didn't. Being young and "innocent" I replied with the truth..."in the dumpster out back." The whole place erupted in laughter, but I don't think my sister found it so funny. When she opened it, I realized why the previous owner had thrown it away...the sleeves were not the same length and it was quite possibly the ugliest sweater I've ever seen.

WHAT I FOUND IN THE TRASH
Written by Captain Mary on Monday, June 02, 2008Long ago when my daughter Monica was a very little girl, she asked a question that most kids ask "Where did I come from?" My mother was standing near and heard the question and she decided to give the answer to her first grandchild. My mother told her that she was found in a dumpster behind a Denny's, she told Monica we were going to get in the car that was parked behind the restaurant and heard crying. So we went over to where the sounds came from, a boost up and in the dumpster we looked. There she was a beautiful little baby girl. But there was something strange about her, she had a handle sticking out of her head. Well mom thought that is a great way to carry this little girl, we pulled the baby out of the dumpster by the handle. We named her Monica, cleaned and dressed her, grew her up as our own. As time went by the handle broke off. My mom said to Monica, feel the top of your head, there is a bump there where the handle broke off.
Monica was completely satisfied with the story, once in a while you would see her feeling the top of her head, remembering what my mom had told her. Time passed and she grew, we never told her that it wasn't true. When she got older she figured it out. It was fun while it lasted.
